Fiber-Optic Splicer

​Position Overview: 

The Fiber Optic Splicer is responsible for splicing, testing, and troubleshooting fiber optic cables to ensure efficient and reliable network performance. This role requires working with precision tools, performing fiber fusion splicing, and conducting fieldwork in various environments such as underground vaults, utility poles, and customer premises.

 

Job Responsibilities:

• Individuals will Splice fiber optic cables, both loose tube and ribbon. 

 Read and interpret splicing diagrams.

• Perform routine maintenance and emergency repair as called upon. • All applicants must always follow safety guidelines.

• Job requires traveling to different sites in Illinois using company provided vehicles.

 Assemble splice case, including grounding, bonding, isolation, storage, and sealing.

Basic Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED.

• Valid driver's license.

• Working knowledge of fiber optic color code.

• Working knowledge of fusion splice machine OTDR, power meter, and live traffic identifier.

• Ability to troubleshoot network related issues with provided test equipment.

• Good communication skills.

• Ability to work in all weather environments and willing to travel for projects in Illinois.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of common telecommunications outside and inside plant engineering, construction, installation, and operation.

• Knowledge of fiber optic testing and troubleshooting using common industry test gear and tools.

• Ability to read prints and other types of engineering documents.

• Minimum of 2yrs fiber optic splicing and troubleshooting using common industry test gear and tools.

• Able to work outdoors in all types of weather.
